HEDGE Commencement 2014
A graduating class of unique and wonderful individuals files into the auditorium.
A speaker takes the stage and opens the ceremony with prayer.
Performances and scripture readings are given by members of the graduating class.
The graduates and attendees are encouraged and entertained by a keynote speaker.
The audience enjoys a celebration of each graduate's life, from birth to the present, through song and video.
Our director Ruth Ann Ludden takes the stage and speaks to the group before calling the graduates one by one.
The parents, who have so lovingly dedicated time and energy to educate their child, step onto the stage with diploma in hand.
The student crosses the stage and presents their mother with a long stem yellow rose; Inevitably there are hugs and possibly even tears as the student receives their diploma, from the parent who has taught them, and their tassel is moved to the other side. This special moment is repeated for each graduate and the families pause for photos as they descend from the stage and take their seats.
The Commencement ceremony is closed with prayer and the celebration moves to the reception hall.
Each graduate celebrates their life journey through a display of personal momentos and photos. Guests are encouraged to write "good wishes" to them on the mat of their senior photo.
This is a beautiful ceremony that never fails to remind me why I began and continue this journey with my son.
